Mass Timber or Engineered Wood Products have become revitalized within the world building construction industry since the inception of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) that occurred in Europe in the early 1990’s, allowing longer spans and the majority of the structural materials in a building to be constructed from engineered wood products.
North America held its first timber conference 7 years ago and Mass Timber products were introduced into circa 2011 to revitalize this continent’s love of wood products in buildings.
European suppliers of Mass Timber products have been a part of integrating Mass Timber into building systems for over a hundred years. The quality is higher for a number of reasons: lower moisture content with European materials will relate to the quality of product and longevity of a building; European non-visual grade in most cases is equivalent to others visual grade for lower costs; additional CLT dimensional thickness options are available with European stock.
