PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Lakeland College Expansion – WHT Mead Animal Science Centre introduces a mass timber structure designed to support hands-on agricultural education while creating a warm and durable learning environment. The building utilizes glulam columns and beams with exposed Douglas Fir and Hemlock ceilings, allowing the structural system to remain visible and integral to the architectural experience.

Designed for flexibility and long-term performance, the timber framework supports open spans and adaptable teaching spaces suited to evolving animal science programs. The use of mass timber also reduces embodied carbon while reinforcing a material connection to the agricultural landscape surrounding the campus.

Together, the structural clarity and natural materials create an environment that supports both practical learning and a strong sense of place within Lakeland College’s agricultural setting.
